(Curcuma longa)
Ground ‘Alleppy’ Turmeric also known as ‘Curcuma’ or ‘Haldi’, is arhizome that is grown in Kerela state of India.It gives dark yellow color, has more richer and earthy flavor than Madras turmeric, slightly aromatic & bitter taste.
It has 3.5-5% volatile oil and is high content of Curcumin (5%)
Used in cooking to add color as well as its flavor in most recipes including Indian curries, North African cuisines and spice blends.
It’s high content of Curcumin acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and digestive and liver disorders. Also as an external antibiotic in skin disease and wounds.*
To make tea:(Turmeric releases active curcumin compounds in oil. Turmeric does not dissolve in water)
Bring 1cups of milk and 1 cup of water to a boil in a saucepan; add 1/2tsp turmeric, ½ tsp ginger powder or ¼ tsp black pepper, reduce heat, simmer for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a large glass; add 1tbsp honey and enjoy.
